will take a thorough medical history and perform a general physical exam. Unless they have been checked within six to nine months and were normal, the FDA TSH Level (thyroid stimulating hormone) and an EKG (electrocardiogram) are normally checked. We will draw a TSH because decreased thyroid function, called Hypothyroidism, needs to be treated if it exists, because one possible effect of poor thyroid function is poor weight control despite one's best efforts. An EKG is checked in order to evaluate heart function and basic anatomy. A normal EKG reassures the patient and physician that exercise is appropriate and also allows the doctor to make other medical recommendations in tailoring your weight loss diet plan to your needs. If TSH and/or EKG have been performed recently in the Augusta Health Care system, we can retrieve the respective results from the Hospital's data base.
Obesity often requires long-term treatment to promote and sustain weight loss. As in other chronic conditions, such as diabetes or high blood pressure, use of prescription drugs may be appropriate for some people. Most side effects of prescription weight loss drugs are mild; however, serious complications have been reported. Some prescription weight loss medicines like B12/complex shots, Phentiramine, Xenical and the like. We will recommend and help you institute an exercise and lifestyle modification diet plan, which will facilitate your weight loss in adjunct with weight loss medication and help you maintain the weight loss when the prescription is discontinued. We do have a full private gym and certified Personal Trainers on site.
Phentiramine (Adipex-P), a common weight loss medicine, is a controlled substance in the amphetamine family and requires your EKG and TSH to be within normal limits and blood pressure to be normal or well controlled before the Phentiramine may be initiated. Side effects of Phentiramine include: nausea, lightheadedness, palpitations, increased blood pressure and/or heart rate, dry mouth, sweating, jitteriness, tremor, and/or insomnia. Generally, the Phentiramine is prescribed in a 37.5 mg tablet, which is taken by mouth about 40 minutes before breakfast.
Xenical binds approximately 30% dietary fat before it is absorbed into the body thereby blocking the calories associated with the metabolism of the fat. Side effects of Xenical may cause nausea, cramping and/or flatus, but is otherwise a very safe prescription weight loss medicine. Xenical is the only weight loss drug approved for longer-term use in
significantly obese people, although the safety and effectiveness have not been
established for use beyond two years. Xenical is now sold over-the-counter as Alli.

Generally speaking, the patient/client is asked to eat 3 meals daily and limit their caloric intake to between 800 - 1,200 calories per day. In order to protect the kidneys during an aggressive weight loss program, one should drink a quantity of water measured in ounces equal to half their body weight measured in pounds. (Minimum: eight - 8 ounce glasses of water daily). See our Weight Loss Tips web page.
If Dr. Greene feels it is appropriate, a B12 shot is provided as often as every 8 - 10 days (3 shots per calendar month). B12 is an extremely safe, water soluble appetite suppressant and mild metabolic stimulant.
We are also a big believer in starting the weight loss program with a detoxifying cleanse. If your body shows Signs of Toxicity, a gentle cleanse is extremely important at the beginning of the weight loss program and possibly every 90 days thereafter, because adipose tissue (fat) is where the body generally stores most toxins that are not initially expelled through the urine or bowel, Furthermore, during weight loss, the aggressive breakdown of adipose and the
increased release of circulating toxins can put the kibosh on weight loss as toxins build up in one's circulation. Aggressive weight loss and the increase in circulating toxins in the body may cause constipation. Options regarding a gentle over-the-counter cleanse include products like Acai Berry and various other products that are available in our office and on our On Line Nutrition Store, which is PayPal Secure and One of the Largest Vitamin Stores on the World-Wide Web. Furthermore, we provide FREE SAME DAY SHIPPING and a BEST PRICE BY AT LEAST 5% GUARANTEE!
